The Interchain Foundation is sharing today that, as committed during our latest presidency update, we are beginning a public recruitment drive to onboard new Foundation Council members. The expansion of the council, and the solidification of its governance guidelines, are a key responsibility and goal for the remainder of 2024 to enhance soundness of governance, diversity, and strategic support to the ICF & interchain.

You can find the application form here, including:

  • A description of what the role of the Foundation Council is.
  • Description of the profiles and characteristics we seek in a council member.
  • The overall responsibilities of council members as individuals.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds — and encourage referrals both from within and outside the walls of our ecosystem and industry.

Onboarding New Council Members

The Interchain Foundation’s primary objective is to support the development and adoption of open-source technologies central to our ecosystem. The ICF Foundation Council is a cornerstone in achieving this mission, and we’re looking to expand this council to better serve the community.

Today, the Foundation Council is represented by 3 members: Josh Cincinnati, Ethan Buchman , and Maxime Monod. Ethan Buchman intends to transition off his role at the Foundation Council once new FC members and a new MD is onboarded, and strong leadership is in place.

These members are committed to welcoming new members, to expand the diversity of skills, voices, and experiences that support the ICF as stewards of its vision and mission. We envision a minimum of 2 new members joining the board.

Applications open today, and the hiring process will kick-off in the coming weeks. We expect to have all new council member roles onboarded and active in their functions by end of year, assuming a normal cadence of new candidates rolling in. The Foundation Council, supported by the ICF, will carry out a multi-step interview process to analyze the candidates compatibility, potential impact, and alignment towards the interchain and the Interchain Foundation’s role in it.

The Council Members themselves form a cohesive cell, shaped by multiple expertises and perspectives that help aid the ICF achieve its mission; therefore, in profile, we strive to find candidates that bring both professional board experience and unique diverse backgrounds and expertises to the table.

Soundness of Governance

The FC is preparing to welcome newcomers with new guidelines and enhancements to its governance guidelines. This seeks to ensure the healthy evolution, rotation, and operation of the FC as a board of directors.

These include set rotation and member cycling policies, with term limits and rotating elections. We aim to ensure Council Members rotate systematically, and procedurally, allowing healthy, sound leadership to flourish and transition gracefully.

The FC also intends to work together with the Board of Management, the Executive Team of the ICF, and the new council members, to cement the interchain’s guiding principles and vision, and build a decision-making framework for the ICF that supports business, product, and market decisions.

We appreciate everyone’s support in the search for new members for the Foundation Council — the role of the Interchain Foundation is to ensure the longevity and sustainability of the Interchain Stack, as a core component of the new internet of blockchains.

The Foundation Council’s growth and maturation continue to strive to secure the future of the interchain and its mission, together with stewards, builders, and the overall ecosystem.
