Ancient Websites

I will talking about three different websites from the 1990’s, “Memepool”, “DPGraph” and “TACO”.

To start off, “Memepool”, the very “first” blogging website seems to be very simple to manage to the point that it will be a bit boring to use after a while unless you’re very into blogging. I’m surprised it came back to life after being dead for a few years since it doesn’t have that crazy media essentials most websites have nowadays like photos or videos. And the name! Before I read the description, I thought “Memepool” would be a website where you see all types of “Memes”, but I guess that term was used differently back in the day.

Secondly, “DPGraph”, reminds me a lot of what professor Kimball said in class the other day. Where if people were capable of adding all sort of graphics and animations they were going to do it, I guess that was the trend during those years. If I had to guess, I would assume “myspace” got some of their ideas from looking at “DPGraph” website. This is website is the opposite of “Memepool”, because I feel that now this website has way too many things going on and it might be a bit distracting to their users.

Lastly, “TACO”, very disappointed they would miss use such an amazing abbreviation in such a lame website. I’m sure that they got a lot of complaints back in their prime days.

I don’t think the websites mentioned above would be that successful nowadays, because they are either too plain or too distracting. However, it’s important to take in consideration that at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is if it gets the job done. The last thing that matters is how it looks.
