COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 4: Picks

Picks made by Mark Gales (MG) and Zac Sheaffer (ZS)

Lamar Jackson could be the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback next week if he continues this level of productivity!

**12 Georgia @ 23 Ole Miss

MG: Ole Miss

What a brutal opening few weeks the Rebels have had — facing off against Florida State in week 1, Alabama last week, and this week facing the always tough Georgia Bulldogs. I believe this will be the first of those three difficult games that Ole Miss comes out on top and sends Kirby Smart back to Athens with his first career loss as a head coach and wins their first big game of the season.

ZS: Georgia

I am not picking Georgia because I have a ton of faith in the Dawgs this season. Rather, it is simply because I do not trust Ole Miss, who has blown two large leads in major games earlier this season. I think Georgia will pound the ball with running back Nick Chubb and come out with a narrow victory.

**11 Wisconsin @ 8 Michigan State

MG: Michigan State

The winner of this game will have to win it on the offensive side of the ball. Both the Badgers and Spartans have stout defenses and play smart football. Michigan State, fresh off their big win against Notre Dame last week, comes in with a lot of momentum and with playing behind their home crowd at Spartan Stadium, proves to be too much for redshirt freshman quarterback Alex Hornibrook making his first career start and Wisconsin. Michigan State wins by 14.

ZS: Michigan State

Michigan State proved me wrong last week when they took it to Notre Dame in South Bend. This week Sparty returns home, and I expect Tyler O’Connor to make some big plays as well as for LJ Scott to have a solid performance on the ground. I do not think Wisconsin can do the same offensively, allowing Michigan State to win by a touchdown at home.

**19 Florida @ 14 Tennessee

MG: Florida

I am still not on the Tennessee bandwagon yet. They have looked good and looked bad in all of their games so far this season against Appalachian State, Virginia Tech, and Ohio. The Gators are a much better team, especially on defense, than those three teams combined. They do have a lot of questions on the offense side of the ball, but I believe the might Florida defense comes up with two defensive touchdowns en route to coming back home from Rocky Top with a big win for second year head Jim McElwain over Butch Jones’ team.

ZS: Florida

Tim Tebow hit a homer during batting practice at the New York Mets Instructional League earlier this week. Seeing Tebow defy the odds inspires Gator Nation and carries them to a victory over a disappointing Tennessee squad.

**17 Arkansas @ 10 Texas A&M

MG: Arkansas

This season’s Razorbacks football team could be Bret Bielema’s best in Fayetteville. He finally has the pieces in tact that made him such a successful head coach back when he was the man in charge at Wisconsin. Texas A&M has now started 3–0 the last three years, but have not finished quite as successfully. I believe that the downward spiral of the Aggies season begins now and will eventually lead to the firing of Kevin Sumlin at the end of the season. I like Arkansas going into College Station and winning by 10 points.

ZS: Texas A&M

This is a very intriguing matchup for both squads. Can Bret Bielema continue the surprising start he has had with his upstart Hogs? Or will Trevor Knight and the 12th Man rain on his parade on Saturday night in College Station? I lean with the latter. Knight has been impressive thus far in his senior campaign, throwing for 830 yards and completing 52.9% of his passes. His athleticism and a hostile environment prove to provide the Aggies with just enough of a boost, allowing them to escape by a field goal.

**Bonus pick of the week (from D-III)
Ursinus @ McDaniel

MG: Ursinus

This game will be the battle between the worst two teams in the Centennial Conference. All three of the losses of the Bears have not been blowouts; however for the Green Terror except for the first game against Catholic, where they went into overtime, their games have been brutal. It is Parents Weekend for McDaniel and many tailgates will be going on with a lot of excitement. Ursinus will crush that excitement by halftime and will beat the Green Terror 48–31.

ZS: McDaniel

Papa Sheaffer will be in the house, my brand new charcoal grill will be smoking, and the Green Terror will fire on all cylinders this weekend and snap their 20+ game losing streak.
