Through the overview of Malaysia profile by BBC, it is the largest country in the world that produces palm oil, rubber, timber and PC disk driver. It means that it is a country that has possessed many natural resources to support its economic growth.

Therefore, it is imaginable that the standard of living of the majority of people should be fairly good, and the economic growth of it should flourish.

But today, there are two shuddery news on the news sites that may have caused Malaysians to tremble in fear.

Malaysia is facing financial crisis.[/caption]

The news has announced that the downfall of Malaysia’s economic growth is coming soon which was declared by the previous Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and a member of Malaysia’s parliament (Wong Chen). Both of them have agreed that the corruption scandal of current Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (Najib), is the critical reason that influences the economic growth of Malaysia.

The scandal of 1MDB[/caption]

The scandal of him was published on July 2, 2015. It was a huge surprise for every local and those overseas. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper has published that Najib was accused of corruption that he had received nearly $700 million into his personal Ambank account from 1 Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) from December, 2014 to February, 2015 and British Virgin Islands company during March 21 and 25, 2013. In some way, the investigators of the WSJ have found out that the money was not for personal use, but spent on charity project to help his ruling party, UMNO, win the national election 2013.

Since Najib is not a shareholder of 1MDB company, why was he able to receive the money from 1MDB?

It is interesting to know how a PM answered to the public and media.

This is a DONATION, NOT CORRUPTION

Through the investigation of Malaysian anti-corruption commission (MACC), they later found out that the money is not from 1MDB, but it was from a donor from a Middle Eastern country . After a few months, the Attorney General of Malaysia, Mohamad Apandi Ali, affirmed that, the money is donated by the royal family in Saudi Arabic, the late king Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud . He said that Najib had no sin because the incident of this donation is between him and the royal family from Saudi Arabic. The Attorney General felt that the public did not need to know why he received the money, as it was a personal matter. The Attorney General has also stated that, Najib returned the remaining money to Saudi family as well.

In fact, no one wants to care whether he had returned money to them; the public wants to know why and how to get the 500 million “donation” without any return, even a business organisations will advertise their name of it in a charity programme after they donate the money.

The Responses of Saudi Royal Family.

Instead of looking for the explanation from the MACC investigation and Attorney General , let’s see what is the response from Saudi’s royal family.

There were two different explanations from the Saudi’s Foreign Minister and two relatives of the royal family.

  1. The Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, mentioned that the money was not for donation on February 5, 2016. The money is for investment in Malaysia by a private Saudi citizen.
  2. The two relatives of the royal family declared that, the money was from a Saudi prince for part of a business deal.

So, WHO LIED TO THE PUBLIC? Was it MACC or the Saudi Royal Family or WSJ? There were so many doubts that Najib could not answer.

Was WSJ lying?

According to the reporter of the WSJ, Ken Brown, he confirmed the money was not from Saudi; it was from a number of companies related to 1MDB. He had enough information to back his story. It was as though he was not afraid of getting sued by Najib.

Unfortunately, Najib’s lawyer attempted to sue WSJ for defamation on July 23, 2015. But until today, they still have not given WSJ any sentence.

STOP GIVING SO MANY EXCUSES

They have given so many excuses for not suing WSJ. So, from this incident, the public believe that the information from WSJ might be the truth.

He will not sue WSJ

Even the previous prime minister also agreed that Najib will not sue WSJ.

The Responses of the Public.

After the controversial scandal of MACC has cleared Najib’s accusation, there were many people who raised their voice in saying that they no longer believe their prime minister with the hashtag #DearNajib on Twitter.

Dearnajib2

The people did not believe the explanation of donation from official government’s investigation. It is impossible that the Saudi prince would want to donate money to Malaysia, or even to Najib without any intention.

Not only on Twitter, there is even a hashtag #najibletakjawatanPM (it means “Najib, please resign the position of Prime Minister”) campaign on Facebook.

NO Confidence on Najib anymore.

Furthermore, Najib has not only lost the confidence of foreign investors and public, he has also lost the confidence of the members of his ruling party. There were more than 80% of the members of UMNO who did not convince his actions.

Through the scandal and the public’s disapproval, he has taken away his right to stay a prime minister. The wave of the social media campaign and news media have shifted away the trust of Najib to be a PM in Malaysia completely. This is a fantastic example that how the power of media has created the public sphere that allows people to find out the truth of a PM’s corruption.

If he continues to ignore the voices of the people, he would be the most hated prime minister in the history of Malaysia. It will leave a mark not only in the book of history, but it also Facebook, Twitter, and other news agency websites.
