In the spring of 2024, ITALIC students studied the ways that art and artists have moved around the world — and, in turn, how their art and stories continue to move us as viewers. This website documents some of our shared explorations. It is a living atlas of the journey we took together.

Atlas, a noun, referred first to the Greek god who was condemned to hold up the heavens. He’s often shown carrying a globe on his back. This image frequently adorned the covers of bound books of maps, which came to be called Atlases in the English-speaking world.

Thus, the atlas both helps you navigate the world and gives you the strength the bear it. What better definition of art could there be?
