It’s no exaggeration to say we’re excited about this release. Your continued feedback has been incredibly varied and useful. Of course, many of you have requested a higher-resolution in parts of the world other than the Alps. Also, even though the terrain doesn’t change, you’ve requested winter imagery when planning your routes.

It’s a pleasure to say that you’ll find all this and more in beta update #5. We’re getting ever closer to getting this out to the public so keep the feedback coming in. We’ll be getting some swag out to the guys and girls who are using the black ‘FEEDBACK’ tab. More on that next week.

TL;DR

  • The whole world is now high-resolution. Find your perfect adventure anywhere and see all of the world’s mountains is beautiful detail.
  • Chamonix is the first to get its winter imagery with all of our existing Adventure Destinations to follow.
  • Our terrain layer colour palettes have been updated after your input and route difficulty is always visible.
  • Other updates include better line visibility when navigating and simplified map view sharing.

Introducing winter imagery for Adventure Destinations

A big step has been to take our existing winter imagery and add it to the global map. Chamonix is our first example of this. Every Adventure Destination you currently see in the FATMAP app today will be have winter imagery on the global map.

We’ll continually expand our winter imagery coverage and will ultimately have the ability to swap between summer and winter depending on your sport.

Explore any mountain

The world’s mountains are now all in beautiful high-resolution detail. This means you can use our terrain tools to analyse the terrain of every inch of the planet whilst using the map to explore and discover your next adventure.

Every country is unique in terms of what resolution data is available but you can be assured that the detail is better than any other web and mobile 3D map product out there today.

Visualising objects is getting even better

You told us that it was hard to understand the difficulty rating system so we’ve simplified its design and ensured it’s clearly visible both in the list of adventures and on the map. Colours and symbols are clearer and more intuitive.

On top of this, the terrain tool colour palettes have had a redesign. Now gradient, altitude and aspect are easier to understand helping you get the terrain information you need quicker.

Plus, lines that are closer to you are more strongly highlighted than those in the distance. Some clever behind the scenes wizardry will keep making sure only what’s important is clearly visible and nothing distracts you from finding your adventure.

And last but not least…

If you’ve found something awesome, wouldn’t it be great to send your friend that exact same view?

Well, simply copy and paste the URL and send that to a friend. The map will load to your exact position. A start to some of the many collaboration features we have coming soon.

Things to ask yourself when testing…

  • What’s the map like in your area?
  • How easy are the terrain tools to use?
  • Are you finding the difficulty system easier to use?
  • Is the map cleaner? Are you finding your adventures quicker?

Remember, do not share anything from the beta product as it’s still a closed environment. For any questions, insights or opinions, you can hit the ‘FEEDBACK’ tab on the right hand side of the screen or drop us an email.

Explore and give feedback

See you out there,
Adam
