Every line starts with an idea. A longing stare at a face, the mind battling through endless possibilities. Will it go? What’s the drop like there? Where’s the best line?

Scoping a freeride line is something we all do. From the cable car to the bar, it’s important to remember that aesthetics is not the only thing you’re looking for.

Xavier De Le Rue has been doing this for years in different climates, terrain and environments. In part 3 of our How To: XV series, we get his unique insights of how he has successfully ridden some of the most beautiful and complex faces in the world.

“Being able to look at a face, spot the potential dangers and being able to figure out what it will look like when you’re riding is the most challenging part of freeriding”

— Xavier De Le Rue
