Why now is the right time to do something on your own

I was thinking about my current situation: I have recently started in a new job (part time). I’m also taking some courses in philosophy. They take up a lot of time respectively, and it’s apparent from both sides that they require more (working full time vs. taking more classes and doing better).

Wanting to do both, but not being sure about neither — at least not in prioritizing between them — has made me think. Is either of them the right choice?

“You could always go back to school” I tell myself. Well, you could always find another job too (not as easy and free of choice).

What isn’t obvious is doing something on my own. A personal project.

Let’s say you could always go back to school, and that you could always get a job. They lay externally, waiting. They’re fairly predictable entities.

Doing something for yourself — starting out on your own, however, isn’t very predictable or stable. But while I’m young I’ve got time, and fairly few obligations and responsibilities. Additionally, the ideas and fires burning inside of me now, who knows they’ll stay there forever?

It’s not the safe path, I know. But I’ll be okay, and so will anyone else who goes after it. The stable entities will most likely stay the same, waiting for a possible return. The way I see it, now is the time to do something on your own.
