Waking up beside a Stranger

Lainie Alberman was Frank Shulman’s best friend. He knew her from the first day of Hebrew School and all through Public School and High School. They had gone to different Universities (She went to Stanford and he went to the University of Alabama) but they stayed close friends.

Lainie was accepted after getting a degree in Mass Communications to Stanford Law School (SLS). Frank graduated with an MBA from Alabama and accepted a job with Thompson Kernghan, a Hedge Fund based in London, England. He thought the change of countries would be exciting and enjoyable.

In his first year in London, he met a wonderful girl and they soon started dating very seriously. Her name was Lisa Eichel and it didn’t take long for Frank to propose. Years earlier he had thought about Lainie as a love interest but he came to the conclusion that she was more like a Sister than a romantic partner.

When he told Lainie about Lisa she seemed mutedly happy for him. A month later she provided some news of her own. She had met Todd Whitton and had fallen madly in love. She was concerned that Todd wasn’t Jewish but he had reassured her that it didn’t matter. The kids could be raised Jewish and he would support her and her religious beliefs.
