Okay, it’s true, I’m a sadistic bitch at heart and I got endless kicks and giggles out of the Mossad’s latest shenanigans — the exploding Hezbollah pagers. Bearing in mind that pagers would typically be kept in trouser pockets!
I mean, who can really diss the brilliance of the operation, named by Eve Barlow “Operation Below the Belt”, which took precision targeting to another level entirely. When your enemy is fuelled by misogynistic male egos, and those male egos are contained almost exclusively in… well, y’know… their ding-a-lings, and it’s those vessels of male ego that take the direct hits, you’ve gotta give it to the brainchild behind it all.
Of course, we do have to acknowledge that there was some ‘collateral damage’ (which always sounds so removed from the harsh reality that these are human lives we are talking about), and I will discuss that more in a minute. But the fact is that almost every person that was killed or injured was the owner of a pager that was specifically delivered to Hezbollah members and fighters by IRGC, Iran’s dictatorship.
