What do you do when you see a young Jewish woman being attacked because she’s Jewish?
Life decisions happen in a hurry
The heat was overwhelming and Sidney Brill was having one of those days. He had taken a shower in the morning that lasted much longer than he had planned. As a result he got to his office a half hour late. He had been trying to make up time but he was fighting a losing battle.
He looked at his appointments and smiled. He was going to be meeting with Theresa Capputto. He always enjoyed meeting with Theresa because she was intelligent, funny, and full of life. She owned three optical shops and was always responsive when he went to sell her new frames. He was excited because his company had exclusive Taylor Swift frames for women and the market had been hot. If things went well, Theresa would place a substantial order for the line. He would give her an exclusive for Toronto.
It was two thirty when he started walking. Theresa was meeting him at her office at 566 St. Clair Avenue West at three thirty. Her office was just down from Bathurst and St. Clair, a place where a lot of Jews used to live in Toronto.
Sidney remembered his Mom telling him about Helen Dennis who she grew up with who lived in the area. He smiled at the memory. Mrs. Dennis was always lovely and baked a mean chocolate cake.
