An Ode to Your Warmth

In the shudder
that ran through me
When you kissed my hand
In that night of fireworks,
Laden in the sprawling lights.
When I touched your skin
warm and wrinkled
With my lips
Shivering in an unknown fear
That grappled the beat inside me.
When you called out my name
In that rushing crowd
When I couldn't hear anything
But my jitters, fearing the failure
that you saved me from.
In the beat that froze
The time I heard
The words of vow
Not to leave me...
But I won’t try to forget it,
I won’t wrestle with letting go of it
Because...
For the first time it felt alive
On however short that road was trodden.
