Around me: drama and burlesque —
I try hard to ignore it all;
I lift my head up from my desk,
to see a poster on the wall.

Someone put it there today,
its purpose bears a lot of weight —
this month (the words appear to say),
black history we celebrate.

Its meaning I have scant perused —
the situation I apprise.
The irony makes me confused:
a sea of white before me lies.

They’ve missed the point, I greatly fear,
as there are no black people working here.
