Breaking away

An anchor with a thick chain,
binds me to a life I don’t want,
pulling,
it does not budge,
attacking,
it does not yield.

I can see the horizon,
enticing me with new islands,
blowing,
a storm fights me back,
freezing,
ice blocks my path.

Oh, let me break away,
give me new purchase,
screaming,
tear the threads to a former life,
crying,
pity the desire to try again.

Still, I sail in narrow circles,
the scenery etched in stone,
burning,
the sun is unrelenting,
dying,
a prisoner of my past.

Stars and salad make me happy. I‘ve been writing, coding, and thinking too much for over 20 years now.
