To build futures, we shut out the light of others

Straw huts, hungry eyes give way to beds of flowers.

I remember neat rows, pretty houses, cool floors,

Trimmed hedges, traffic islands, gentle folks, open doors.

Beyond, empty fields lie in the shadow of smokestacks

Buffaloes stand in pools nearby, memories on their backs.
