The Kid Should See This

The Modern Hero battles tedium.”

Too many realities squash the soul.

The frothy, tumultuous stream
of disasters, politics, wars,
concuss the making mind,
leaving it flustered and flat.

Algorithms stop managing the world
and suddenly begin to become it.

Thought takes a permanent vacation.
Reaction remains to fill the void.
Everyone becomes a bureaucrat.

The mundane requires enough suffering.
Too much effort to make more and new,
to struggle against obliterating conformity.

Only fools chase fantasies, tilt windmills,
howl at the heavens, disdain silence.

But… imagination refuses to die.
A few sparks flicker in the vast darkness,
creating fictions against the night,
conserving the possibilities of light.
