butterfly in air
crushed beneath a heavy shoe
life is rarely fair

mouse the small cat slew
love offering left by door
eviscerated

hungry child wants more
food, but cannot be sated
then, of course, falls ill

genocide and lies
leader must find more to kill
world closes its eyes

hardships fall like yellowed leaves
reader sighs and then she grieves

This sonnet obviously combines the 5–7–5 syllabic structure of the haiku with the 14-line rhyming scheme of a sonnet.
