Everything had felt broken —
fucked up.
Now,
hanging here,
feet struggling,
pulse and breath all but gone,
I’m violently crashing away —
while life is flashing
in the blink of an eye.

In that final moment,
just before the breathing stops,
just before I fall into the dark space inside me,
I feel a wave of calming vibes —
nothing like the absolute mayhem and madness
I’d come to know.
Suddenly, I understand.

Things come into focus
and I finally see
the most important thing in the world is life.
In that moment
where I was dying
I wanted only to be alive.
