Knife Etiquette
A Poem (And a Loaded Metaphor)

What you shouldn’t do with your knife
is dawdle around the rarity of a steak’s precision
to swerve the mushy sides in teetering indecision
The knife, smothered and smeared in butter
Wouldn’t soften the blow in a stab stuttered
So drive it straight in the core of the meat
and let it bask in deglazed wine steeped
Before gnashing it between your eager lips
Admire the crimson dripping off the blade’s precipice
Be empathetic to the poor potatoes, please
They can’t stand to be pushed around in the gloat of grease.
