Rosemary McGrotha, by Wayne Maser for Vogue Italia July/August 1989

Muddy sandals in the bathroom.
A pink ribbon on a box of chocolates
the dog wants me to open. Thought I saw it
run past you. A mirror in the hallway;
a promise hangs off the skyline;
a bloody mirage—not long till it’s broken.

Satin slippers by the doorway;
hair clips and red roses. Some Netflix
and chill music… thought I heard you
walk past too. A golden brooch on a flannel.
AirPods on the bare floor. Polaroids fade on
the balcony; leaving memories, without you.
