she'd want (me to ask) you to be kind

I love that girl whose dark eyes glow more
than her smiling teeth
in the school pic

She isn't hurting yet
and doesn't know that she will
but it won't be long until she starts realizing things
that'll burn a little more than they should

The eyes, however, that pierce through mine
from the grainy blue background of the frame
do not yet resemble that pain

cause she's still just a kid

But the thing is, she'll still be a kid
when they throw her to a world that is rough and cutting
and she'll then suffer cause people can't be rude
they must be kind
because when they are not
the things that burn in her chest
crawl their way to her mind
they come alive
eat her out
and leave her blind

And she can't fight two fronts at the same time
not for she's a child
but because people were not
made of clay yet they are
just as fragile and they look
just as unbreakable
