sometimes news turns
in an instant
yesterday’s head-
lines grow distant

ㅤㅤnew phrases come
ㅤㅤold ones depart
ㅤㅤlanguage rolls on
ㅤㅤlike a flip chart

election fraud
twitter storm
echo chamber
misinform

ㅤㅤhollow echoes
ㅤㅤof recent past
ㅤㅤgive way to the
ㅤㅤnew slang at last

insurrection
riot, treason
twenty-fifth
amendment
reason

ㅤㅤcongressional
ㅤㅤunity —
ㅤㅤorder
ㅤㅤcontinuity

bridging divides
looking ahead
putting nutjob
rumors to bed

ㅤㅤwake-up news flash
ㅤㅤborn of violence
ㅤㅤbully pulpit
ㅤㅤfades to silence

capitol mall
sprouting clover —
long, national
nightmare over?

inspired in part by Bebe’s First Action

for those who like Easter egg hunts, I hid a reference to a Shins song, and a line from Pres. Gerald Ford’s swearing in speech from 1974, after Nixon resigned
