The frog

I’ve been
a happy tadpole
in my pond,

but now
the maggots
are turning
into flies.

They fill the skies
until the sun
is almost
gone.

I feel the calling
of my soles
from deep within me,

urging me
to take these vermin on –

to grow a pair
and be

the frog.
