Tell me, do you know why you think the way you do
Or, why you say the things you say?
Do you know if they are really true,
What are the things in your mind that play?

Tell me, do you really believe in the things you believe,
Do you feel the depth of the things you know,
Is there anything that you truly perceive,
Does your mind reflect the same as what your speech and demeanor show?

Tell me, do you know what makes us who we are
Is it the people we follow, the ideas we subscribe to
Or the stories we hear from near and afar,
Stories that pass many mouths through.

Or is it our actions that define us,
Actions that seldom succeed thought
Or any logical rationale, obeying only a chorus.
Imitating popular choice, are they not?

Do we agree with people to fit in,
To be heard and seen as the normal?
Scared to be different, to speak out from within,
While the unspoken words inside, quarrel?

In the fear of being distinctive, different, and left out
Out of the circle of tradition and social constructs,
We often speak in someone else’s voice, ignoring the nagging doubt,
While the inner thought that gathers dust, our mind in turn it destructs.

So, tell me is it not your opinions and ideas that define you
And the questions you ask yourself and your conscience?
The choices you make every day, your take on the worldview,
Do you not want to speak your own version of society’s parlance?

So, don’t let them show you only one side of the coin,
See for yourself, and start a dialogue for others to join!
