The Road Paradox

When I lived in central Africa, it was very common for a road trip from one town to another one nearby to take hours because the roads were in a bad state of disrepair, with potholes, mud or erosion.

Now I live in a modern city, and it is also my experience that a short road trip can sometimes take hours, because the roads are always under repair.
