I love
the way you become
the water when you paddle back
and forth, drifting, as if
on a breeze. You stand,
crouch, glide, lose yourself in the pebbles,
the reflections, the light, and the wind
that shatters the water.

They say that
your notion of self is as ephemeral
and fragile as the wings of light
creatures drifting upward. That
you have an unstable idea
of where you stop and others begin,
that you may wonder
whether you, the light and the gliding are different
or the same.

I say
I am glad I was here to
witness the way you become
what you love.
