Few rappers can be engaging when repeating the same words over and over. To that extent, Without Warning manages to succeed spectacularly and occasionally fail with asinine absurdity. Repetition is a mode this album visits incessantly. “Ghostface Killers” incorporates the most complex melody on the album. The main instrument has a ghoulish timbre, reminiscent of the organ in an abandoned cathedral. A good start for the weakest song. It’s bereft of the surprise which is both thematically expected and musically necessary. Undulating between ascending and descending scales, this songs follows a predictable arc that gives it the most cliche modal frame on the album. This is sadly ironic since every other song follows simple ostinato. Consider, “Ghostface killers, wootang, 21 news gang,” spoken with the simplicity of a nursery rhyme. Metro…
