Terrific story marred with an excusable flaw and another that was totally unnecessary

AK vs AK poster, courtesy Netflix

I am told that even Danny Boyle had praise for the film and I won’t be surprised. Anurag Kashyap and Anil Kapoor play themselves in the film. Yes the film grips you from the start but all the time you are fully aware of the fact that in real life nothing of this kind has actually happened and that steals the reality and excitement of the film to some extent. But then would the film have been this good if Anurag and Anil had played a random director and some actor instead of themselves? My answer to that would be “No”. So this flaw (if you were to call it one) is excusable.

But the one that isn’t excusable is the one where Harshvardhan Kapoor, Anil’s son in real life and in the movie over uses the word “F***ing” in a scene that literally goes over the top. Why was this permitted in a film as this I wonder. Other than that this is a terrific film, a comeback for Anil Kapoor. Go for it. A good one from Vikramaditya Motwane.
