“Antony”, not bad at all

Joju George is all set to become the next Malayalee matinee idol?

Even a decade ago no one could that have guessed how a guy with a protruding belly is going to almost take over the foreseeable gap in the Malayalam Superstar league and Joju is fast getting there. An ageing Mammooty’s slow pace and lack-lustre performances in recent films is the gap I am seeing.

The surprise element with “Antony” (sorry for letting out a spoiler) is how a sweet father-daughter love comes about while I totally mistook the film for some thriller. Considering the innumerable slasher and gore films there spewing over-the-top violence, in “Antony” there is believable “Goondaism” and its associated action and Joju lives up to the expectations.

This is my first Kalyani Priyadarshan film and she has done her part pretty well. Nice to see Appani Sarath, the bad guy from Angamaly Diaries in a minor role in this film. Unfortunately it is nothing compared to his stellar role in Angamaly Diaries. Nyla Usha was a fresh face I was seeing for the first time and who also impresses with hotness and emotion and certainly has scope for more roles. Chemban Vinod was good in his supportive role too.
