Brilliant closure to the first installment

Wonder if Jeethu Joseph had a sequel in mind when he made the first installment in 2013 which was a brilliant film though there were claims it was inspired by a Korean film. Whether this sequel was planned earlier or later it sure is a winner. In fact I had watched the so called Korean film and Drishyam was way better and it was no copy either. Drishyam 2 keeps you spellbound and it also carries the humour of the former particularly in the scenes with Meena who plays Rani, the wife of George Kutty (the protagonist played by Mohanlal). The kids have all grown up and Jeethu Joseph does very well in roping in prominent characters from the first installment played by Asha Sarath and Siddique. The best part is however the neat twists that Jeethu incorporates into the film and the watching only gets more thrilling after that. As I mentioned in the tag line the movie also brings a closure to elements lingering from the first installment but I wish they had provided a little more expose into who the actual culprit was and the gravity of the actual crime. The new characters introduced in this film particularly Murali Gopy (son of veteran actor Barat Gopy) as the cop spearheading the operation of framing George Kutty was a good choice. There are several moments where we are roped back to Drishyam like events in the film and that was good too to keep the film alive and pulsating. In all a winner from Jeethu Joseph and team. Go for it if you have watched the first installment (which is a must).

The ultimate triumph for this film would be if it were to be remade in all the other languages as the former was.

P.S. My only gripe, maybe it was made for surround sound but the audio in many places doesn’t suit your normal T.V because the background score is sometimes too loud and the vocals get subdued. In some scenes, particularly in the shop scenes (one in particular) the audio is really annoying. The other annoying element was Georgekutty’s advocate’s English. If so much of English were being used it would have been prudent to have it checked for proper pronunciation. It was so bad I had to read the subtitles to understand what she was saying. (21'st March) — I had missed this one subtle scene about which I thought I would definitely write about and that is the one where Rani (played by Meena) is dehusking a coconut while at the same talking having a conversation with her husband Georgekutty (played by Mohanlal). Notice how Jeethu has taken the pains to either train Meena in dehusking the coconut or insert a dehusked coconut so cleverly (as it takes some skill to dehusk a coconut) it looked as though Meena did a thorough job of extracting the coconunt from its husk. Brilliantly done!
