An unbelievable sci-fi film from Egypt
I had no idea I was going to watch a science fiction film and that too from Egypt. This was my first Egyptian film and all I knew was that it was a thriller. Honestly I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to watch. If the Mallus could make a Superhero film as “Minnal Murali” then you must watch how the Egyptians could come up with a sci-fi film such as “Mousa”. I wouldn’t say the special effects were as good as what the Russians managed with “Attraction” and “Salyut 7” or what the South Africans did it with their amazing “District 9” but who ever would have thought that science fiction coming out of Egypt, would be this good. “Mousa” has been made really well. Directed by Peter Mimi (I need to check out his other films now) it is just not the special effects but the entire narrative, the editing, music, the fantastic story , the good stunts and even the acting that counts, making it a good watch. Also it is always interesting to observe customs, behavior and life from another culture.
Without any further spoilers and despite some key aspects of the film I have mentioned I am sure you still will be impressed! Go for it. Currently it is not on any of the OTT platforms or in cinemas but I guess you know how to get it then.
P.S. — In one of the earlier scenes of the film, check out a bike that is used. On the engine it reads, “Bajaj”. That was something!
