We’re always on the look out to support thriving creative projects across the UK, this month we’re supporting Bute Street Film Festival. With the growing creative culture in Luton, it has brought about the creative hub in the heart of the town, and with it Bute Street Film Festival has emerged for its 1st Edition.

With their motto ‘Be innovative and unswervingly creative’ the festival looks to nurture, support and promote independent films, filmmakers and artists from the UK and around the world. Putting young people and their creative development as its core aim Bute Street is dedicated to fostering and promoting independent, innovative and creative films.

We caught up with Benjamin Cyrus-Clark, the festival director, who gave us an insight into Bute Street Film Festival.

Tell us about your background, what led to the creation of Bute Street Film Festival?

I am a filmmaker. I mainly write and direct shorts and features with my production company Cyrus-Clark Productions. I started out as an Actor and sort of fell into writing, since then I’ve written and been involved with quite a few short and feature films. I’ve also been involved with different writing seminars such as Write2Screen in conjunction with Creative England as well as being invited to and taking part in BAFTA Guru last year.

Why is Bute Street Film Festival different to others?

Bute Street is more than just a film festival, films are indeed the foundation of what it is about but we will be including many different art forms alongside it from one festival to the next.

So, for the festival on 10th March we will be showing 34 films as well as hosting a unique art gallery where we have commissioned three independent artists to create a pieces of artwork specifically for this event. In following festivals we will be looking to incorporate art installations, photography etc. The set up of the festival will be very much an exhibition feel as you can move around from room to room taking in different films and art and voting on your favourite as there will also be awards!

How can filmmakers get involved?

We have had some amazing submissions and the deadline for subsmissions is now closed, however we welcome all filmmakers to join us on March 10th. Bute Street will be actively looking to make the festival both an entertaining and educational experience.

All ages are welcome to attend and will find an increased agenda of creative surgeries hosted by industry professionals covering all aspects of film and filmmaking. As well as incorporating other creative disciplines to compliment the festivals theme. We look forward to making this a success. Save the date, Bute Street is this March 10th putting on an amazing opening show that people will hopefully love.
