Knicks Ink Second Round Pick Dotson to Three-Year Deal
The Orlando Summer League stand out will be buried in the depth chart and his third year has a partial guarantee attached.

The New York Knicks will sign their second round pick, 44th overall, Damyean Dotson to a three-year deal, per ESPN’s Ian Begley. The third year will be partially guaranteed.
Dotson was drafted out of the University of Houston after transferring from the University of Oregon. Damyean presents a sizable frame at shooting guard, standing 6'6" tall. However, with this summer’s reacquisition of shooting guard Tim Hardaway, Jr., and last year’s signing of Courtney Lee, Dotson will find himself behind two capable players at his position.
In his senior season at Houston, Dotson averaged 17.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 34.4 minutes per game while shooting 46.9 percent from the field, 44.1 percent from three, and 83 percent from the free-throw line (via Basketball-Reference).
Dotson played well above his competition during the Knicks’ participation in the 2017 Orlando Summer League. Dotson averaged 12.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.6 assists while shooting 48 percent from the field, 48 percent from deep, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in five games (per RealGM).
Dotson posted the fifth highest scoring average in college last season in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and noticeably shot the best shooting percentage from three-ball in the conference.
Damyean fits the Knicks’ new mold of developing younger talent. However, Dotson is not without controversy.
During his time at Eugene, Oregon, Damyean was accused of rape in 2014 and was subsequently suspended by the basketball team. Eventually, the investigation was dropped and no charges were filed.
The figures of Dotson’s contract with New York are still unknown, but the Knicks will have to do some mathematical tinkering with the salary cap. Our Jeffrey Bellone approximates the Knicks only have roughly $1.3 million remaining near the hard cap.
