Exeter Christmas Autumn

It’s Christmas time again and we are getting excited. We can’t wait to start shopping, decorating our trees, and having abnormally large amounts of mulled wine. For a small city like Exeter, it’s surprising how many good Christmas attractions there are, but it can be hard to find out about them. We’ve compiled a list of events you don’t want to miss in Exeter this December:

Exeter Christmas Market

This is perhaps the best-known attraction in Exeter during Christmas, which is why it makes sense for us to include it first. Considering how small Exeter is, it’s surprising that its Christmas market, hosted by the cathedral, is in our humble opinion, much better than the one in Bristol. We absolutely love strolling through the market, trying different sweets, cheeses, and wursts, whilst admiring locally made jewellery, clothes, and more. We really can’t recommend the Christmas market enough: it’s a great opportunity to connect with the city.

Late Night Shopping @Princesshay

While the Princesshay is mostly filled with high street chains, we still recommend you go there in the evening to see the buzzing crowds and beautiful lights. There are also a few independent places by the Princesshay — one of our favourites is Chandos Deli. Every Thursday until the 21st of December, the shops will be open until 9 pm. Make sure to pop in and enjoy the atmosphere.

See a show @ Northcott Theatre

We recommend you go and see the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra show, the “Last Night of the Christmas Proms”, which they’ll be performing in Northcott Theatre. We think it’s always fun to dress up and go somewhere nice, and what’s better than a Christmas show at the theatre?

Make Christmas Decorations @ Exeter Library

Why not have a family evening making decorations for the Christmas tree in the public library? The event is completely free, and they will be selling mulled wine (for the adults) and mince pies (for everyone). Check it out from 5 PM — 7 PM on the 7th of December.

Feel like royalty by going to Reed Hall

Who wouldn’t want to dress up and go for a meal or a party in Reed Hall? Exeter’s most beautiful building (save for the Cathedral perhaps) will be hosting a few events during Christmas time. You can find the full schedule here.

That’s all from us! We hope you’ve found at least one event which will be of interest to you, and you’re ready to truly feel the holiday cheer.
