Phil Reeker to Become US Top European Official

Philip Reeker.

Ambassador Philip T. Reeker will replace Wess Mitchell as the head of the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, starting March 18, according to reports.

American diplomat and career foreign service officer, Philip Reeker, served as US ambassador to Macedonia from 2008 to 2011 and deputy assistant secretary at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs from 2011 to 2013, focused on the Balkans, Central Europe, and Holocaust Issues.

Reeker in his new post comes from EUCOM (U.S. Command for Europe), headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.

He is well known in Kosovo since 1999 where he served as Chris Hill’s spokesman and later was engaged as the former US mediator in the Kosovo-Serbia talks.

When the first Kosovo-Serbia agreement was reached in 2013, Reeker was in the position of Assistant Deputy US Secretary of State and was personally involved in the process.
