Faint Sound of Paranormal Anklet
As a kid, one of my biggest fears growing up was encountering a ghost or a paranormal experience. Maybe I was afraid of the dark or what it is that could be in the dark. I secretly wished to encounter some mild paranormal experience. But never expected it to come this way. By that time, I had heard stories of witches, ghosts, stranded souls, and Jiñ. When thinking about these mythical creatures made me afraid then I loved to think that God is more powerful than them all. My paranormal experience happened where I lived. So to give you a brief description of the house. My house had the ground floor where I lived with my parents and the 1st and 2nd floor. The top floor had a beautiful terrace garden and tenants lived on the 1st floor. There were 2 different doors each leading to a separate section of the house. 1st half of the house was occupied by the tenants whereas the other half of the house was vacant with literally no sound coming from there. To add more to that environment. Barely any light reached that section of the house. I never went alone in that section of the house. When I went there with my parents, it gave me a different and negative aura. The rooms were engulfed in darkness which already was too much for a 10-year-old. Few rays of light only entered the back of the room through a small window like a limelight of a night show.
As far as I remember I had a tenant living on the 1st floor of the house with his mother and sister. His name was Siddhart, he was like an elder brother to me. He was a typical scholar who used to study till late at night while I went to bed at 10 pm to sleep before midnight which I believed to be a time when paranormal activities were at their apex. One night while half-awake around 11 pm I heard a faint sound of anklets coming at a specific interval which hinted that someone was probably dancing or walking. I thought that Siddhart’s mother must be wearing one. I didn’t give it a second thought. A few weeks passed by and that faint sound continued.
I didn’t think of it that much but it scared me a little. One night my mother asked me if I was hearing some sort of sound. I nodded yes. She also explained that it must be the lady on the 1st floor wearing anklets because in a typical Indian household ladies wear anklets. It is a common tradition. A few weeks more passed by when all of a sudden that faint sound of anklets stopped coming. I remember waking up every night from that sound. But because the tenant slept late at night, I never gave it a second thought. One day when I went to meet Siddhart when he asked me if my mother wore anklets. I replied no. He told me that he heard the sound of anklets while studying late at night. At the same time, my mother also climbed up the stairs and asked what were we talking about. Thinking that I must be lying, he asked my mother if she wore anklets. My mother told him that it’s been years since she wore anklets. Siddhart’s mother listening to our talks also came up and asked us in disbelief to confirm if the noise was coming from the ground floor. My mother told her that she heard it coming from their room. Siddhart’s mother and his sister didn’t wear anklets at night.
We couldn’t think of any other explanation other than that the noise was coming from the vacant room of the house because there was no house around us. The nearest house was on the opposite street. Maybe it could have been some rat but rats don’t make the sharp high pitched sound of anklets and that is at specific time intervals. It could have been a hallucination but few people don’t hallucinate together.
We all immediately understood that it must be a witch that had lived in our house for a few weeks. In Indian mythology, a witch only wears anklets and dances at midnight. Witches don’t do any harm if you have not wronged someone.
Later that day the room was opened and water from the Ganga river was sprinkled in that portion of the house for purification. The Ganga river in India is holy and in every Indian household, it is kept in a container. This indeed was the scariest paranormal experience that I had encountered. All the tales I had heard about witches connected like dots.
