On the 20th June, Tigerspike hosted an event at our London Office. The event was intended to expose the young adults in Brent Council’s care to the world of technology, Tigerspike, and the various roles that contribute to making this company great. We had senior staff take the young adults through their roles and the stories of how they got into their lines of work.

On arrival, everyone was notably excited to be in a new environment and we started the event by handing out a small gift to thank them for their participation. Everyone, including Brent staff, was pleased to receive some Tigerspike swag.

Participants were split into two groups where they alternated between two presentation sessions each starting with UX Design and Business Analysis. The second sessions were on UI Design and Software Development. We then wrapped up with a talk on Talent Acquisition where the two groups were merged into one.

What did you like most about the event?

Meet the Team

Simon Hart ran the Business Analyst session

Simon has worked at Tigerspike for over 7 years, starting as a QA and currently in the role of Lead Business Analyst. During his time at Tigerspike, he has worked on large client projects for the likes of Shell, the United Nations, and New Look.

Sang Valte ran the UX session

Sang joined the Tokyo Tigerspike office at its launch in 2014 and now heads up the London design department. He has worked with leading companies in the global airline, e-commerce, retail, finance, insurance and automotive industries to improve user experience.

Tony Kerchhoff ran the UI session

Tony has worked for Tigerspike for over 7 years on a wide range of projects at all stages of their lifecycles. He focuses on user research and shadowing, together with process analysis, helping to identify valuable opportunities for efficiencies in organisations, turning this information into interfaces that users love to use.

Michelle ran the Recruiting session

Michelle is our dedicated Talent Acquisition Manager. She sits alongside our delivery teams helping to grow the team by recruiting people with the right skills and characters in line with the Tigerspike values.

Michelle also proactively works with operations and business development teams to ensure the Tigerspike team is resourced as the company continues to grow its client base across EMEA.

Josep ran the Tech Development session

Josep has been working in the industry for almost 10 years and has degrees in Computer Science and Software Engineering, studying topics ranging from Artificial Intelligence and Distributed Systems, all the way to Project Management.

Each session was designed to be collaborative to ensure the audience took away something valuable from the experience. It was great to watch their minds buzz with excitement at possible future careers in the tech industry, understanding that with passion and hard work they could overcome challenges they may face in life, and land an inspiring and engaging job.

Were there any parts of the event you found especially useful?

“I found that all the work that goes into making an app is quite astonishing”

“Business Analysis was fascinating. I didn’t know I had the skills for that role”

It was especially rewarding when some of the participants realised that they already possessed some of the skills needed in a few of the roles presented. This was made possible by our team who were able to talk about various challenges they’ve faced in their career, how they came to be involved in the work they do, and what “a day in the life of” is for them.

After a Q&A, we had time to relax, eat pizza and spend some time answering any additional questions they had. Once stomachs were filled and all questions were answered, the participants departed with a list of resources available to them for self-study and further investigation on the topics discussed.

The feedback we received was incredibly positive and made us realise how this small gesture could impact each of their lives.
