Anybody learning Japanese knows how overwhelming developing good reading skills can be.

Hiragana and Katakana don’t take long to be learned. Kanji, also called Chinese characters, are what slows down the process by a lot. Finding a text where you know all the Kanji is close to impossible. Even at an advanced level, unknown characters are bound to come up.

Luckily, the Japanese language is a well-document one with many resources to practice. But what are the best ones and how should we use them?

Here are some of my favorites, many of which have helped me tremendously in my own journey.

NHK Web Easy

Let’s start with the most obvious and useful of all: NHK Web Easy. If you’re looking to reach a high level in Japanese and be able to read the news, there’s no better platform.

The concept is simple: the website offers news articles in “easy” Japanese. Every day, they upload 2 to 4 new articles.
