Response to Jeffrey Goldsmith’s “This is Your Brain on Tetris”

First of all, absolutely hilarious that the designer of Tetris couldn’t finish making it because he couldn’t stop playing the prototype. Could you imagine knowing that you’ve got something that amazing and you can’t yet give it to the world because of the very thing itself distracting you?

This article was also interesting as I’ve always wondered what was going on in the brains of people when they get hooked on games like this.

It was very informative to learn that there is a connection with the organizational impulse of the brain when concerning Tetris. I always thought it was about achievement, but all along it was about putting things in their proper place.

This article was published quite some time ago and I think that Pajitnov is probably pretty surprised that the 3D technology that he thought was right around the corner has yet to become as pervasive as he was expecting. I know it’s not quite topical, but I would suggest that the biggest hurdle is the expense involved to render 3D and people just aren’t willing to make the financial commitment. Perhaps the Google Stadia project will provide the solution by decentralizing the processing from self owned computers and consols and just allow people access to cloud processing. Seems reasonable. Only time will tell.
