A Lion That No Longer Roars is Not The King of the Jungle

An ant that only swims — drowns

It’s here that a capricious ant hunts
charged with depravity
the ant crawls and crawls
up and up
over a mountain
and under a bridge
right into the lion cave

The lion circles the venomous ant
a misstep only once forgiven
until they swarm
up and up
over its hide
under its mane
right into its snarling mouth

The ant executes its death march
to the spoiled meat in the lion’s stomach
as acid and bile fills
it bites and bites
up and up
over the fortitude
under the remorse
right into the blurry forfeit of venom and acid
the ant sinks
