Silently I open our bedroom
door and sneak inside. I lay
on our bed, listening, begging
her to breathe.

I fear this is the
inevitable night when
death sneaks, unseen and
unheard into our room.

She rustles the sheets,
rolling from her back
to her side. She is alive.
I can go to sleep.
