The Lark

You who seek silence
Of a kind that often has as a companion
Peace
And occasionally brings with it a
Joy
That overflows even the deepest spiritual fountain
You have a daunting journey ahead of you

Mystics who have dedicated their lives
To this pursuit
Have found themselves at times
On the cusp
Of surrendering to despair
While others engaged
In daily work of a kind that involves
Struggling to merely survive
Having only their hearts to guide them
Repeatedly diving into the holy waters of blessed silence

What is the secret passage
To achieve the desired end
There is no certain route
Each quest is unique
Though there are some hints
As to how to proceed

There are the external noises
Particularly those that are artificially produced
From a myriad of electronic devices
That conveys a cacophony of sounds and distractions
