Daring the Truth
A poem
I don’t know what to tell you.
Or whether you’re even asking.
I’m in a staring contest with my fears,
and I am not one for multitasking.
I don’t know what to tell you,
my words went sour and rotten.
Long before I dreamt you in existence,
I had a life that’s neither forgiven nor forgotten.
I don’t know what to tell you,
And why you’re even here.
But let’s play a little truth or dare
before I decide to run and disappear.
Truth
The truth?
The truth is that I do know what to tell you.
My words are not dead, just in hiding.
I’m just not sure that my other truths are worth providing.
Dare
I haven’t been one to dare,
It’s daring that did me wrong.
But it’s time for me to move and not just stare,
It’s time for me to answer you even if I don’t feel strong.
Truth and Dare
I do know what to tell you.
And I do know that you’re asking.
I won the staring contest with my fears,
I dare myself — my truths I no longer will be masking.
