There wasn’t enough time to save everything as the wind howled. The wind had torn the roof off the shed in the backyard. Mets looked at the darkening sky and knew that the rain was only moments away. She shoved another box into the back of her SUV.

Davos was filling the back of his half-ton truck with boxes that had been stored in the garage. As for clothing, a large hockey bag had become the storage container for their winter clothing. The rest had been packed into their small overnight bags.

Davos cursed under his breath, knowing that he should have had everything packed and ready to go weeks ago. Mets were always on him about being such a procrastinator. At least they had planned what would be needed when the time came to leave.

The packed boxes in the garage were proof of her planning put into action. Most of the stuff was just stuff, not much of it vital. Why they were even taking any of the stuff was still a mystery to him. They had known this day was coming, but they didn’t know that it would come so soon.

With the boxes loaded, Davos disabled the GPS locators in both of their vehicles so they couldn’t be tracked. Their cell phones were left in…
