Evaporate

A poem

To vanish
bit by minuscule bit
into thin air
or air thinner still —
there’s nothing to it
as long as you
always
always
maintain or gain
altitude
as long as you
never lose track
or height
as long as you
never retreat
ever

After a lifetime of
glimpses and
trials and errors
I have finally arrived
at this strangely
familiar ladder
and I have
begun to scale it

Heading for nowhere
rising as nothing
