Feeling Less Love
Serial fiction — part 7
“Why are we here, Evan?”
Elsa quivered and with each step toward the hospital room, she was fraught with unease.
“Let’s go inside, and you’ll find out, but you have to be brave, darling.”
Evan’s arm encircled Elsa’s shoulders, providing both comfort and strength as he guided her into the hushed atmosphere of the private hospital room.
The door creaked open, revealing Elsa’s aunt, lying still, an oxygen mask veiling her face. Elsa’s gasp echoed in the room, her heart clenching at the sight of her unconscious relative.
“What happened to Auntie?”
Elsa’s grip tightened on Evan’s arm, fear lacing her words, seeking solace in his presence.
“She had a car accident yesterday and suffered a head injury. She’s in a coma right now, but the doctors are hopeful she’ll regain consciousness soon.”
Evan’s gentle reassurance carried a weight of concern as he held Elsa close, kissing her head tenderly, and wrapping her in his embrace.
“Should we inform your dad, darling?”
Evan’s question hung in the air, concern etched in his eyes.
“No,” Elsa curtly responded.
