sound —
almost
like silence
before the storm
listen for relief —
first inhale of earth’s air
first exhale of heart and lungs
a long yearned-for song of my heart
the voice of my son arriving home
mother’s joy in the sound of birth’s first cry

ten
years now —
time’s true trick
his laughter fills
my life with soul love
he speaks his mind, astute
observant, mindful, thoughtful
funny, poetic, child of mine
cherishing his words, his talks with me
the sound of my son is the song of home

An etheree is a syllabic poem that forms the shape of a triangle. It has ten lines with line 1 having one syllable, line 2 having two syllables, and it follows the pattern until line 10.
