Anxious am I on days like these
When hurricanes of yellow pollen swirl
up the cottonwoods and junipers
marching into April
awaiting Spring’s Prologue
when ennui awaits its full bloom
to take flight.

Weary to venture out on a
Chaucerian pilgrimage
Be I Alisoun —
off to Spain, I go
to seek solace in pious ways
genuflecting
at the vestibule of St. James
offering tidings at
Cologne’s MagiPenance in Boulogne.

Pray I two rosaries at
the fragmented statue
of our Virgin Mother.

Blessed be the sanctimonious
the relics and shrines
the taverns and tales and frothy beers.

Let’s tipsy tumble
on the Way of the Cross
following in the
footsteps of Jesus
from His trials
to His death
and resurrection
where the sun shall
shine once more.
