This poem was written shortly after John Lennon’s death

Lennon

With your band, you caused a revolution,
You woke the whole world up.

You gave everybody a reason to live,
You had them drinking from your cup.
With your very special sense of humor,
You made the whole world laugh.

And those songs you wrote so long ago,
You were the master of your craft.

And somebody had to go and shoot you,

Tell me why?

I remember The Beatle haircuts
And the Chelsea boots you wore.
But most of all I remember the way
Your music got the people on the floor.

But behind all the gimmicks
There was an energy a truth
And your philosophy of peace and love
Had the optimism of youth.

And somebody had to go and shoot you,
Tell me why?

And suddenly it was all over
We lived to see a sadder day
Our generation had grown up with you,
You had helped us along the way.

Now people can say we were naive,
To believe in peace and all those things.
But naivety brings happiness.
It’s the philosophy of Kings

And somebody had to go and shoot you,
Tell me why?
And all that the world could do was,
Sit and cry.
It was also sudden,
You didn’t even say goodbye,
Goodbye.
