The years have passed, yet here I stay,
Still hoping, you’ll return one day.
My heart, it aches, it’s torn apart,
By dreams of you that break my heart.

I thought you'd come, I thought you'd heal,
These wounds of loss I always feel.
I love you still, I’ll always do,
But time has shown, I’m lost without you.
The tears, they fall delicately upon my pillow,
Leaving me to feel like a lost widow.

No knock upon my door will sound,
No dancing and waltzing me around.
Smiles and sweet kisses, showing concern
How silly of me to think of your return.

So I will now let go, though it breaks my heart,
For this world was not ours to share from the start.
Perhaps in the next, where love reigns true,
I’ll find my forever, my soul, in you.

Note from the author. I think everyone has endured heartbreak in their lifetimes.

My first love was like this!
